Dhamma Malaya (Malaya means sandalwood in Sanskrit) is near the foothills of a mountain range 35km inland from Kuantan, the state capital of Pahang, on the east coast of Malaysia.

The centre comprises 20 acres on a small breezy hill, surrounded by the palm and fruit trees of Gambang Plantation.


Several ponds and a large stream attract birds to the area around the centre.

Dhamma Malaya under construction   The centre was constructed in 2006-2007.
It can be viewed from the East-West tollway, and is located opposite the University Malaysia Pahang.


The centre has a simple symmetrical layout with Asian style pyramid roofs on the main buildings.

Reception Area   The reception area near the car-park provides an under cover drop-off point. The administration and kitchen areas are nearby.

The dining hall has shady verandas and is joined by a covered walk to the reception area. It serves healthy vegetarian food.

It is also used as an assembly point at the start and end of courses.

Inside Student Room   Accommodation for students is in simple but private rooms with attached bathrooms. Inside the single rooms, a comfortable mattress, fan and mosquito net is provided.

The 72 rooms for students are built in blocks of eight rooms. Hot water stations are available for those who require it.   Men's accommodation block

Audio/Video Hall   A special hall is used for meetings and smaller group meditation.
Inside the hall modern audio/video equipment is provided for English Discourses.   Inside A/V Hall

Lily pond and central path   A central garden path under the shade or durian trees leads up to the male and female teachers' residences and interview room.
The student paths lead past the teachers area up to the main meditation hall. It has wide 3 metre verandas, and is linked by covered walkways to rest areas for breaks.   Path to Main Hall

The hall is built to seat 150 people. To ensure a cool and pleasing environment, there are marble floors, louvre windows, and a vaulted ceiling for maximum ventilation.   Path to Main Hall
